HybridNeuro at the International Electrotechnical and Computer Science Conference ERK 2024
On September 26th, 2024, HybridNeuro's young researchers, Nina Murks and Leon Kutoš, from the University of Maribor, Slovenia, participated in the Electrotechnical and Computer Science ERK 2024 Conference. They presented their studies on motor unit analysis using high-density electromyography (hdEMG), actively contributing to the Biomedical Engineering section of the conference.
Leon presented a study titled "On the efficacy of coherence-based assessment of functional coupling between pools of motor units", highlighting how extending the convolutive data model for hdEMG affects the accuracy of coherence estimation between motor unit pools.
Nina presented the study "Motor unit editing time in high-density EMG decomposition decreases with the operator's experience and pulse-to-noise ratio, but does not depend on simulated muscle". This study investigated whether human operators with varying experience and expertise edit decomposition results at different speeds and using various approaches. Nina also analysed whether and to what extent the time and actions required to edit the decomposition results of hdEMG signals are influenced by the characteristics of the hdEMG signals.
Both presentations provided valuable insights into motor unit behaviour while tackling technical challenges behind hdEMG signal analysis.
