HybridNeuro at the Gothenburg Science Festival
On the 2nd and 3rd of April 2025, the Neural Interface and Motor Control Lab, Chiara Fantinato, Mehdi Shirzadi, Bahareh Ahkami mentored by Silvia Muceli participated in the Gothenburg International Science Festival with the workshop “Explore the Magic of Muscles: A Workshop on Human Movement.” The event, hosted by Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, brought together students from local schools to discover the fascinating science behind how our bodies move.
The workshop introduced the students to the basics of motor control through fun and interactive activities. We explored high-density electromyography (HD-EMG) technology and demonstrated in real time what happens when a muscle contracts, visualizing it as colorful heatmaps revealing the activity across the muscle.
Together, we explored how electrical messages travel through
motor neurons and replicated it using line-following robots,
which use sensors to follow lines and read color codes created
with markers!
It was a fantastic opportunity to spark curiosity and share
our passion for neuroscience with the next generation of
scientists and engineers!
