The Second Research Management Exchange
THE HYBRIDNEURO COORDINATOR AND LEAD SCIENTIST, Aleš Holobar WITH RESEARCH PROJECT MANAGER, Tanja Botić, VISITED IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON
From September 10th-13th, 2024, Aleš Holobar, a coordinator and lead scientist, and Tanja Botić, Research Project Manager of the HybridNeuro project, from the University of Maribor (UM), conducted their visit to the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London aimed at strengthening UM's research management competencies, particularly in securing competitive European grants.
The exchange focused on knowledge transfer related to grant application strategies, project implementation, and cutting-edge experimental methodologies, with the goal of enhancing UM's ability to secure large-scale research funding. Discussions with Imperial's experienced research managers and scientists provided the UM team with valuable insights into Horizon Europe funding schemes, particularly ERC and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) calls.
The visit also highlighted the critical role of research project managers in the strategic development and management of large-scale funding proposals and grants.
In addition, the exchange included demonstrations of state-of-the-art research techniques. UM team had the opportunity to observe advanced methodologies which will be instrumental in advancing their own research infrastructure at UM.
Reflecting on the visit, Aleš and Tanja both emphasised the value of the in-person exchange, noting that it provided UM with a broader perspective on the strategic planning and interdisciplinary collaboration required to compete in European research funding landscapes. Such management exchanges additionally strengthen collaborative efforts with Imperial College London, facilitating deeper engagement and more strategic coordination on joint research projects.
Looking forward to the next opportunities that HYBRIDNEURO project will allow for these exchanges!
